Wildfire Season

It’s like the Portland area is under a bowl. A cloudy glass bowl that lets one see the sky, but traps the smoke between it and the ground. We’ve got two wildfires nearby, one to the west and one to the southeast. My house smells like a campfire, even with keeping it closed up, and my eyes burn, my nose and throat are irritated.

But that’s nothing. My home, my dogs, and my belongings are not in danger. I cannot imagine living in the fires’ potential paths. My thoughts are with those who are affected by this and are in imminent danger, as well as with those on the front line fighting these fires. Much strength to you all.

Ma Nature? If you’d be so kind, could you rain on us a bit? Appreciate it.

(I know there are other fires elsewhere, some larger, some more remote. I send my thoughts to those affected by them, as well.)

Carry on.

Barbara, is this fairly new for the Portland area – to have forest fires nearby?

    • Linda, it’s normal that there are several forest fires in Oregon (and Washington/California/Idaho and other states, etc.) each year, but I can’t remember the last time one was as close as these two are. But, well, we are surrounded by forests, so it’s certainly a reality that they’d happen. Thankfully, some control has been achieved over the past couple of days.
