Grand Old Dame

This great old tree lived a short ways from my house. (Sorry for the poor quality, it was a rainy, cloudy typical PNW day in Spring a couple years ago when I took these with my phone.)

It leaned considerably to the west and a bit to the south, with nary a branch or twig growing on the east side of the entire tree. The height was impressive, and the trunk was quite thick. I wondered about it leaning; you can tell a bit that the whole trunk had started to tilt. She towered over a parking lot and business.

She was breathtaking. Stark. Spirited and uniquely beautiful.

Well, she’s gone now. I guess the leaning became too much of a risk. I’m glad I stopped that day to take some photos so she can live on that way.

Carry on.
