Eight years ago, my oldest sister was given the gift of life. She received the liver of an organ donor who shared his life with many others as his final gift. My family will always be grateful to him and his family for their strength.
We’ve lovingly named my sister’s liver Sylvia. Happy Birthday, Sylvia!
Don’t think of organ donations as giving up part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It’s really a total stranger giving up almost all of themselves to keep part of you alive.
If you have not designated yourself as an organ donor, please consider doing so. It matters.
