I have a No Solicitation notice posted right at my doorbell. For a reason.
This afternoon, while I was upstairs, the doorbell rang. People who know me know that I don’t answer my door if no one is expected. And they know that they shouldn’t come over unless they are expected. It’s just the way I am. Weird. Anyway, as is my norm, I didn’t answer, but I glanced out the window to see who it might be.
Girl Scout! Cookies!! D’oh!
Oh, well. Although, truth be told, I still wouldn’t have answered the door. Here’s why. While I appreciate this youngster, with Mom in tow, doing her cookie selling the ‘old fashioned’ way, I also feel that this is another learning opportunity for the child. And Mom could take this opportunity to teach. Teach the child to respect others’ wishes, and that yes, they apply to children, too. (In all honesty, I don’t know if the Mom was close enough to the door to see the notice, and the little girl was quite small and may not have known what the sign said. I’m being general in nature here.)
To all of you who have children (I don’t), please don’t hate on me for “preaching something I have no clue about, due to being childless.” That’s not what this is about, and I mean no disrespect. In fact, I love that this little girl and her Mom are building up her sense of self.
Just don’t knock on my door…
